EPC Minister, Manu’alesagalala Enokati Posala is leading the negotiation with villages for three new hydro-stations

Three new community-based hydro power stations have secured funding from the Asian Development Bank.

The stations will be located at Faleseela and Tafitoala in Upolu and the third, at Palauli Savaii.

Government at the moment is negotiating land deals with those villages.

According to EPC Minister Manu’alegasalala Enokati Posala, the process is a lengthy but added;

“The good news that the concessional grants from ADB has been approved means that funding is now, not a problem.�?

He said that the investment in hydro power and other renewable energy sources is targeted to reduce reliance on diesel, which, generates up to 70% of the country’s power needs.

Tentatively if pieces of the puzzle come together, he said, the three stations should be commissioned in two years time.
