Okinawa students with Foreign Affairs and Trade staff yesterday

Samoan culture and Japanese development aid to Samoa is the focus of a week-long tour for 13 high school students from Okinawa, Japan.

Part of the Okinawa Youth Development for International Co-operation project, the tour aims to further develop human resources back home in Okinawa by learning about how it’s done in other countries.

The students will be visiting areas where technical assistance and activities are carried out by the Japanese Overseas Co-operation Volunteers (JICA).

The group during their tour will visit the Embassy of Japan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Samoa Water Authority and the Tafaigata Land Fill.

Other programs include a tree planting at O Le Pupupu’e National Park and a visit to Mataaevave and Palalaua colleges in Savaii .

The students will also get a taste of day-today Samoan life as they are staying with Samoan families.
