As long as his government is in power, Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi says, gay marriage will never be legislated in Samoa.
“And I also hope that other governments in the future will never approve of it.�?
The Prime Minister stated that Samoa is based on Christian principles and Samoan culture which both espouse the union of a man and a woman.
“That is the natural order of humanity. Bearing children and raising them in healthy homes.�?
He adds,
“Just because something (gay marriage) is popular overseas doesn’t mean we have to adopt it too. We pass laws that is best for our country, our people and are In line with our values. Gay marriage is never going to happen as long as I’m still around.�?
The Samoa Faafafine Association is also opposed to gay marriage.
